Approach® Therapy – A Whole Body Approach to Treating Pain & Dysfunction
Ilene Fischman, M.S., P.T. is a licensed physical therapist as well as a
certified John Barnes Myofascial Release Therapist. The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release
Approach® is based on 50 years of pioneering research
in the field of alternative physical therapy and has been adopted by over
100,000 physicians and therapists to date. It is widely recognized as an
innovative and highly effective whole body approach for evaluating and
treating pain and dysfunction.
Myofascial Release is a safe and highly effective hands-on form of physical
therapy applied to the fascia, the tough connective tissue that covers the
entire body from head to foot. Fascia surrounds, infuses and attaches to
every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and internal organ.
Damage to the fascia from trauma, inflammation, disease, surgery, or other
sources may result in a tightening in one area of the fascia. This
tightening may produce abnormal pressure on pain-sensitive structures that
in turn may result in discomfort, pain, restricted motion, bodily
malfunction, and sometimes even bizarre side effects and symptoms in other
areas of the body. The fascial system profoundly influences all other bodily
structures and systems. Therefore, improved fascial health can have a
profoundly positive effect on your general body health.
Myofascial Release therapy utilizes gentle “skin on skin” contact to hold
the tissue effectively, and therefore does not use creams or oils. A gentle
but firm pressure is applied into the affected area for a sustained period
of time. Myofascial release may also include craniosacral therapy, a
hands-on method of enhancing the craniosacral system (brain and spinal
cord). Contact us to learn more about how you may experience deep down pain
relief from our Myofascial Release therapy services utilizing the
cutting-edge techniques developed by John F. Barnes, P.T..
Svaroopa® Yoga – Releasing Tension in the Deepest Layers of the Body
Svaroopa® yoga differs from other forms of yoga in that it is
designed to release tension in the deepest layers of the body,
with an emphasis on spinal decompression. The tension
release begins at the tailbone and is carried up the spine.
Virtually anyone can benefit from Svaroopa® yoga because
the practice is fully supported with propping and pose
modifications. It has a profoundly healing effect on three
levels: physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual.
Embodyment® Yoga Therapy – The Main Therapy Technique of Svaroopa® Yoga
Your Svarooopa® yoga therapy session begins by setting up in Shavasana,
yoga’s relaxation pose, with your legs supported. The practitioner then
places his/her hands on specific areas of your spine to help the muscles at
the base of the spine release. This one-on-one treatment will facilitate
your body’s ability to heal itself.
Ilene is currently not offering Embodyment
Yoga Therapy sessions nor teaching classes (private sessions are still
available). She will be glad to connect you with another Svaroopa®
Yoga teacher upon your request.
Additional Wellness Services
In addition to the services listed above, we offer posture training,
proprioception and balance training, and therapeutic exercises designed to
improve your flexibility and strength.
